Question of the day
Read the question using the sound buttons to help you spot the digraphs/trigraph. Answer yes or no using thumbs up or thumbs down on hands. Can you challenge yourself to write an answer to the question using a full sentence?
Explain to your child that all words have beats and introduce the word syllables. Model clapping the beats in the word ladybird and ask your child to count them. Encourage them to try this with their own name.
Let’s try some of our friends/family names e.g. Lin-da (2 syllables) Say aloud the names and child to clap out the syllables (they will need support with this). Which name has the most syllables? Which has the least?
Play a guessing game using parents/siblings: I am going to clap a name. (clap twice) Whose name has two claps?
After playing the clapping game, please test your child on their current 'tricky word' knowledge using the sheets that we have provided below (please ignore the words 'all', 'her' and 'they' as we haven't learnt them yet). Point to each tricky word on the sheet and ask your child to say aloud the word. If they get it correct, adult to colour the word in (choose one colour for all tricky words). If they are unsure, please leave it blank. Please return the sheet to me by email so I can see how they are doing. Thank you :)
Literacy
Continue reading ‘The Cave’ story until the end. Ask your child the following questions:
Why did the wolf hide at the end of the story?
How do you think the wolf felt when he saw what the little creature really was?
The bear is lured out by a doughnut covered in sprinkles. It must be his favourite food! What is your favourite thing to eat?
Draw a picture of the cave in the story and then draw a picture of the food that would lure you out of hiding. Write a sentence to describe what the food is.
Challenge: To find out some facts about bears using a book/the internet (adults you will need to support your child with this task).
