‘Together we learn, believe and achieve’

Music to your Ears!

The Chevening Big Band Project

Class R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6,

It’s time to create the biggest band Chevening has ever heard. The only catch, is that your instrument must be homemade!

Task: Can you create a musical instrument using objects and resources from inside or outside of your house?

Have a look at the gallery below for some ideas ...

Things to think of first:

What materials have you found?

Where did you find them?

How will you fix it together?

Do you need an adult to help you?

Once you have made you instrument, think about the following:

Can you predict what sound it will make?

How does it make a sound?

Blow, pluck, twang, bang, rattle …

Can you think of any other words?

Now for some musical vocabulary …

Can you describe the pitch? Is it high? Low?

Can you change the dynamics? Loud, soft?

Can you change the timbre? Does it sound flat or rough for example

Can you change the tempo? How fast or slow can you play it?

What happens to the duration of each note or sound? Is it long or short?

Challenge: Have you made a ‘tuned’ instrument?

What notes can your instrument play?

This is how to make a hosepipe horn:

Watch the video below and compose your own music

Once you have created your instrument, please send me a picture (arobinson@chevening.kent.sch.uk) and I will add it to a gallery on this page to be admired and inspire others. Keep your instrument and bring back to school when we return!

Adults, please join in too!

Whole School Song

Calling Chevening School Singers ... It would be great if we could all come together and learn this song over the next few weeks. Sing your hearts out, teach your family members, sing together with your friends and we will sing as a whole school when we return!

One Moment, One People

If you are locked out I will bring the key.
If you are lonely come and stand by me.

Cos the room keeps getting brighter as you shine a light.
and the world keeps getting kinder with you by my side.

This is one moment,
(This is) one people,
(This is) one lifetime,
(This is) one song.
(x2)

If you feel diff'rent we will take your hand.
If you feel frightened come and join the band.

Cos the room keeps getting brighter as we shine a light,
and the world keeps getting kinder singing out side by side.

This is one moment,
(This is) one people,
(This is) one lifetime,
(This is) one song.
(x2)

Every heartbeat drums together and fills up with pride
and we’re growing strong together, singing out side by side.

This is one moment,
(This is) one people,
(This is) one lifetime,
(This is) one song.

This is one moment, (Cos the room keeps getting brighter as you shine a light,)
(This is) one people,
(This is) one lifetime, (and the world keeps getting kinder with you by my side.)
(This is) one song (x 2)

The room keeps getting brighter as you shine a light,
and the world keeps getting kinder with you by my side.

Challenge: Can you invent your own lyrics for a new verse? You might like to take inspiration from how you are feeling at the moment?
