In Maths, we are now learning about measurement. This week we got off to a brilliant start by trying our hands at creating our own metre long rulers. We then explored which of the items in our classroom were longer than a metre in length.
We have recently been exploring the use of bar models when it comes to answering word problems.
In Maths, we have now moved on to learning about multiplying and dividing. We have started with the practice 3, 4 and 8 times tables, using lots of concrete objects in order to ensure we understand the process of what we are doing.
We've become quite the little mathematicians this week, as we have been solving more complicated subtraction calculations, which involve carrying (borrowing). We have also been working on the skills of sharing our knowledge with others, which reflects and shows our true mastery and understanding of the subject.
This term we started off with learning about the place value of numbers. We then moved on to addition of three-digit numbers and looked at all the different methods we can use, including: counting on, number bonds (partitioning), as well as both expanded and the more compact column addition. We are now repeating the same learning structure but with subtraction. We always use lots of concrete objects and pictorials whilst carrying out our work, to ensure deeper understanding.
