St George's Day
We explored the story of George and the Dragon and talked about the truth behind the legend. We had a fantastic time drawing our own dragons and designing bold, colourful shields. During VIP time, we brought the story to life as we role-played George and set off on exciting dragon hunting adventures. We built a castle and enjoyed adding characters such as knights and princesses, which inspired imaginative and creative storytelling. We also created St George’s flags using scrunched tissue paper and Hama beads, producing bright and eye-catching designs.
At Forest School, the celebrations continued in a different way. Instead of traditional St George’s flags, we made our own flags using the Hapa zome technique. We collected a selection of flowers and leaves and enclosed them in fabric, then carefully and safely tapped them with a hammer to create beautiful natural prints. We discovered that both sides of the material looked the same and learned a new word, “symmetrical”. Finally, we added a stick to turn our printed fabric into a flag, ready to wave proudly.
