SES Flow Water
Class 5 have managed to escape the confinement of the classroom and venture to where few have been, to get an exclusive tour and a behind-the-scenes look into some water treatment works. This unique opportunity allowed the children to experience what few have seen before.
They started off with an educational recap of all things wonderfully water related, including the water cycle and what raw water in its most natural form consists of.
We couldn't believe that it is this initial yucky liquid which makes its way to our taps safely for us to drink!
This commodity, which so many take for granted, goes on quite the journey. Class 5 were fortunate enough to observe and follow it through much of its 4-hour travels through the treatment works. They even got to observe how the chemicals extracted in the process are returned to the happy farmers and all the thought and consideration that goes into making this treatment as environmentally friendly as possible.
Next, muddy footwear on and well-wrapped up, they were able to climb the dam and view Bough Beech reservoir from an angle few have seen. Some challenging questions were posed and answers found before getting the opportunity to enter the valve tower itself and underground passages to help further understand the water treatment process and impact on the local environment.
All the while, sustainability was a key focus through the considered sharing of information, interactive activities and games. We are all most certainly more water wise!
