We have been learning about John Utzon, who designed the Sydney Opera House. Did you know that there was a competition to design the building and Utzon was relatively, unknown when he won?
Inspired by Flotsam, our whole school book, we have designed our own buildings inspired by the ocean. We had to think about how we could balance to surrealism of the images in the book with the need to make a model that has structural integrity.
Having designed our concept, we then created architectural plans for our building. We then built a model of what our building would look like.
Viking Longboats
We have been learning about Viking longboats this week. We researched longboats to find out what the features of these amazing vessels were. Did you know that longboats had flat bottoms to make them easier to slide across land?
Before making our own models, we have tested out different materials to see how durable, malleable and waterproof they are - as well as how well they float!
We have combined all of our research the design our own model boats.
