Owl Babies
This week we enjoyed the story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. We explored the characters and their feelings at different points in the story, learning the new word ‘petrified’. We also discovered that owls are nocturnal and that a baby owl is called an owlet. The children let their imaginations soar by creating their own adventures for Mummy Owl, whether she was off to the beach or popping to the shops to buy dinner! They came up with some very creative dishes to feed the baby owls. We went on a Mummy Owl hunt, making pictures and maps to help us find her. In our finger gym activities, we painted owls using pompoms and cut paper shapes to create owl collages. We even danced the Owl Dance during our dough disco session! After learning that owls have an amazing sense of hearing, we tested our own listening skills with a game at Forest School. Then we explored the site for ingredients to make more meals for Mummy Owl, including mouse soup and worm ice cream.
